- 1 cup shortening
- 2 sticks butter at room temperature
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 2 extra large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 4 cups of flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 pkg. milk chocolate chips
- 1 pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
I have this cute friend Jana who loves to bake like I do. We are always telling each other about yummy recipes we’ve tried or are going to try. A while back she told me about this chocolate chip cookie recipe she’d seen over at The Red Headed Hostess. Well let me just say that I’m not sure if I should love or hate Jana for leading me to these stinkin’ cookies. I don’t personally know Shannon (The Red Headed Hostess) but I can tell you she is a girl after my own heart. She nailed it with these cookies, they have rocked my world!
Shannon’s post for these cookies is titled “Chocolate Chip Cookie Bliss. A Love Story.” These are indeed a love story!! These cookies are my knight in shining armor, my Prince Charming. . . I am IN LOVE with these cookies, I think my husband may have met his match!
If you are like me and happen to love a good chocolate chip cookie, then you HAVE TO make these . . . .like today!! Just be aware that these cookies do require a few steps before you can actually bake them, but trust me, they are soooo worth the wait. The dough needs to chill for several hours, then you scoop the chilled dough into balls,throw them in a plastic bag and freeze them. When you are ready for some warm, gooey, crispy chocolatey goodness, just throw some frozen dough balls onto your cookie sheet and bake.
There are however two problems with these cookies. First, having a bowl of cookie dough sitting in my fridge to chill is a dangerous thing (I am a chocolate chip cookie dough junkie) and second, having frozen cookie dough balls in my freezer is also a dangerous thing (again, a junkie).
I really need to learn some self-control.
- Cream together butter, shortening, and sugars. Beat until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes)
- Add eggs and vanilla and beat well.
- In separate bowl whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.
- With mixer on low, slowly add flour mixture and mix well.
- Stir in chocolate chips.
- Cover cookie dough and refrigerate several hours until chilled.
- Scoop chilled dough into balls and put in ziploc bags and freeze.
- Bake frozen cookie dough balls at 375° for 8-12 minutes or until they just start to brown. Don’t overbake them. Remove from oven and let sit on cookie sheet for several minutes.
